- Marinetek Adriatic builds the Port of Lavrio in Greece
Marinetek Adriatic has secured one of the most significant nautical infrastructure projects in the region — a €3.9 million contract to modernize the Port of Lavrio in Greece, a key maritime hub in Attica and an important gateway to the Aegean islands.
The contract for the “Supply and Installation of Floating Breakwaters and Pontoons in the Port of Lavrio” was signed on May 14 at the premises of the Lavrio Port Authority, following a lengthy and repeatedly tendered public procurement process that began in October 2024. The Croatian company Marinetek Adriatic, specializing in the development and implementation of modern marina infrastructure, was selected as the contractor.
The agreement was signed by George Vacondios, Director of the Lavrio Port Authority, and Boris Miškić, Director of Marinetek Adriatic.
The project includes the production, delivery, and installation of 19 floating breakwater units (type M4300BRK) and 18 reinforced concrete Heavy Duty pontoons (type M3300HD), forming six new floating piers with a total length of nearly 500 meters. All elements will be manufactured at Marinetek’s facility in Šibenik, Croatia, before being transported and installed in Greece.
Upon completion, scheduled within eight months, the Port of Lavrio will provide safe berthing for approximately 250 vessels ranging from 10 to 40 meters in length.
With Lavrio playing a vital role in Greece’s maritime and tourism sectors, the significance of this project becomes even more evident.
During the summer season, hundreds of private and charter yachts pass through the port, connecting Attica with the islands of the Aegean, Saronic, and Ionian seas. The upgrade represents a significant step toward improving safety and service standards in southern Greece.
– We are confident that this project will contribute significantly to the development of southern Attica and further enhance the standards of nautical tourism in Greece – said Boris Miškić, Director of Marinetek Adriatic.
The Port of Lavrio is officially designated as a “Port of International Interest” and serves as an important economic driver for the region. The new floating breakwaters and pontoons are a key part of its long-term development strategy.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Lavrio Mayor Dimitris Loukas and Fanis Karagianis, Director of the consulting company Optimum Value.
